Welcome to the exhibition presenting the history of Szendrő Castle. With the help of your device, we will guide you through an interactive exhibition presenting the history of the castles of Szendrő – from the first mention of the settlement in 1312 until the beginning of the 18^th century, the period of Felsővár (Upper Castle). Szendrő is located at the gates of Bódva Valley, on the edge of the Cserehát and the Gömör-Torna karst, situated near the North Hungarian Mountains, bordering the Hungarian Great Plain.

It is very likely that, originally in the area of ​​Szendrő, three castles existed concurrently. A mediaeval fortress most probably stood in the present-day centre of the settlement. Its remains are still visible among the houses today. Lower Castle was the earliest of the castles with an identified location. Based on depictions, the floor plan of the well-known five-bastion German Castle, the fortress surrounded by the arms of the Bódva River, expanded with the Hussar Castle, can still be observed in the current structure of the settlement. In the final decade of the 16^th century, the construction of Upper Castle began in a designated area on Várhegy (Castle Hill) in accordance with the ideas of the military engineer Christoforo Stella.
